The Townsville City Council voted today on whether or not to approve a new shopping centre at our current Mike Carney Toyota Park. The vote was a 7-4 split in favour of the new development! This is great news for Townsville Rugby as it will allow for a new development at the Murray Sports Complex. The development is still likely to end up in Environmental and Planning court due to pressure from local traders. For more information visit the link below.
It was a Grand Final Weekend to remember as passion flowed and rugby was played at the highest level over the past weekend. Teams were represented as far out as Burdekin and Charters Towers and supporters flocked to support their region. On a beautliful two days and nights the teams battled it out for bragging rights going into next season as well as a place in History, there were upsets, plenty of tries and excitement from both players and supporters alike. If you’re attending Friday or Saturday finals this weekend please show your support for our plan to move to Murray by signing the petition at the front gate. Council’s Planning and Development Committee have approved the Hugh Street site for development, but it is yet to be approved through full council. There is still work to be done. The project will be decided on at the next Council meeting on Sept 22. This meeting is open to the public and it would be great to get some of you to come to show your support.
